Rhinoplasty is one of the most transformative cosmetic procedures, but understanding the recovery timeline helps set realistic expectations.
Week 1: The Critical Phase
After surgery, you'll have a nasal splint and possibly internal packing. Expect swelling and bruising around the eyes that peaks on day 2-3. Most patients manage discomfort with prescribed pain medication. Keep your head elevated, even during sleep.
Week 2: Turning the Corner
The splint is removed at day 7. Bruising begins to fade, and you'll start to see the initial shape of your new nose. Many patients feel comfortable returning to non-strenuous work at this point.
Weeks 3-4: Returning to Normal
Most visible swelling has subsided. You can resume light exercise. The nose will look good but will continue to refine over the coming months.
Months 2-6: Refinement
Subtle swelling continues to resolve. The nasal tip, which takes longest to settle, gradually defines itself. Most patients see their "near-final" result at 6 months.
12 Months: The Final Result
The nose has fully healed and settled into its permanent shape. Any residual tip swelling has resolved, and the result is complete.
